Willy Adames shares his surprise at signing a record-breaking deal with the Giants, previously held by Buster Posey, during his press conference
San Francisco: So, Willy Adames just signed a huge contract with the Giants, and he had no clue it was a record-breaker! Can you believe that? During his press conference, he was asked if he knew he just topped Buster Posey’s old record. He laughed and said, “I didn’t know until it was done.”
Adames was pretty chill about it, saying it was wild since Posey is a Hall of Famer. He joked about not wanting to say the wrong thing and get fired right after signing. The deal is for seven years and a whopping $182 million, which is a big deal for the Giants.
Last season, Adames hit 32 home runs, making him one of the top shortstops in the league. This signing shows that the Giants are serious about bringing in big names to stay competitive in the tough NL West. They can’t just rely on home-grown talent anymore.
And guess what? The Giants might not be done yet. Rumor has it they’re looking to sign pitcher Corbin Burnes too. Since their last World Series win in 2014, they’ve struggled to make the playoffs, especially with the Dodgers spending big bucks this offseason.
So, while Adames has the biggest contract for now, who knows? The Giants might just break that record again soon!
