The Athletics are close to acquiring pitcher Jeffrey Springs from the Rays, sending multiple players and a draft pick in return
Oakland: So, the Athletics are making some moves this offseason. They’re about to snag lefty pitcher Jeffrey Springs from the Tampa Bay Rays. Pretty exciting stuff, right?
According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, the A’s are sending a few players over to Tampa Bay. They’ll give up right-handers Joe Boyle and Jacob Watters, plus outfielder Will Simpson, and a draft pick. Not a bad haul for Springs!
Springs has been a solid player since joining the Rays from the Red Sox back in 2021. He really found his groove as a reliever and even made it into the starting rotation. In 2022, he had a standout year, earning a nice contract extension.
But, you know how it goes in sports. Injuries can be a real bummer. Springs had a great 2022 season but only managed to pitch a few games in 2023 before needing Tommy John surgery. That’s tough luck!
He’s set to make $10.5 million in 2026, with a team option for $15 million in 2027. Let’s see how he bounces back with the A’s!
