London Triumphs Over Petes Cowan Streak Ends in Knights Victory

The London Knights defeated the Peterborough Petes 3-1 ending Easton Cowan’s impressive 65 game point streak.

The London Knights beat the Peterborough Petes 3-1. The game happened Friday at Canada Life Place. Jared Woolley scored the winning goal. It was a short-handed play in the second period.

This victory marks London’s 40th win this season. They’ve reached this milestone often. London reached 40 wins in 17 of 24 seasons. The Kitchener Rangers are second with 10 such seasons.

Peterborough stopped Easton Cowan from scoring. The Sudbury Wolves last did this on Nov. 24, 2023. Cowan had a 65-game regular season point streak. It’s the longest streak spanning two seasons.

Sam O’Reilly passed to Kasper Halttunen. Halttunen scored, making it 1-0 for London. It was his fourth goal in six games. Colin Fitzgerald tied the game for the Petes. He tipped in a pass from Braydon McCallum.

Woolley scored short-handed with Jesse Nurmi. Woolley shot past Easton Rye, giving London a 2-1 lead. It was Woolley’s second goal in two games. Evan Van Gorp scored the only goal in the third. Will Nicholl and Sam Dickinson assisted. Cowan hit the post late in the third period.

London took 38 shots. Peterborough had 25. London failed on both of their power plays. Peterborough went 0-for-5 on their power plays.

Dennis Ververgaert and Dave Hutchison were inducted. They entered the Don Brankley Hall of Fame together. Ververgaert had 351 points for London, and Vancouver drafted him third overall in the NHL. Hutchison helped London win their first playoff series. He played in both the WHA and NHL.

The Knights play the Barrie Colts next on Thursday, Feb. 13. London last played Barrie earlier this season, with the Knights scoring three quick goals, winning 5-4. Both teams have improved since then. London hosts the Soo Greyhounds on Valentine’s Day. The game starts at 7 p.m. at Canada Life Place.
