Outfielder Bryan De La Cruz joins the Braves on a one-year deal as they look to bolster their roster during Ronald Acuña Jr.’s recovery
Atlanta: So, guess what? Bryan De La Cruz just signed a one-year contract with the Atlanta Braves. They’re paying him $860,000 if he’s in the majors and $180,000 if he’s in the minors. This is a smart move since Ronald Acuña Jr. is still recovering from knee surgery.
De La Cruz became a free agent last month when the Pirates didn’t offer him a contract for next season. He just turned 28 and made his MLB debut with the Marlins back in 2021. Last year, he was traded to the Pirates, where he played 44 games and hit .200 with three homers.
In his four seasons in the big leagues, he’s got a .253 batting average, with 58 home runs and 208 RBIs. Not too shabby! Acuña, who was the NL MVP this year, tore his ACL back in May and probably won’t be back by opening day. So, De La Cruz is definitely a welcome addition to the team.
