The Mets have reportedly signed catcher Chris Williams to a minor league contract, adding depth to their roster for the upcoming season
New York: The Mets are making some moves! They just signed catcher Chris Williams to a minor league deal, according to Ken Rosenthal from The Athletic. This is a solid addition for their depth.
At 28, Williams has played six seasons in the minors, hitting .227 with 95 home runs. He spent last season with the Twins’ Triple-A team in St. Paul, where he batted .221 and hit 17 homers in 88 games.
Bringing him on board gives the Mets some extra options behind the plate. He could be a backup for Francisco Alvarez and Luis Torrens, just in case they need some support.
Oh, and it’s not just Williams. Earlier this week, the Mets also signed infielder Jared Young and lefty pitcher Brandon Waddell to minor league deals. Looks like they’re gearing up for a busy season!
