Mike Tauchman is on the verge of joining the Chicago White Sox, bringing his skills to a team in need of a turnaround after a tough season.
DALLAS: So, Mike Tauchman is making a move to the Chicago White Sox. Pretty exciting, right? The White Sox’s general manager, Chris Getz, mentioned that Tauchman will be taking a physical soon. It looks like he’ll be joining the outfield lineup.
New manager Will Venable is also on board with the addition. He’s been talking about how Tauchman brings a lot to the table. They haven’t made it official yet, but it sounds promising.
Now, Tauchman isn’t just any player. He’s 34 and grew up in Palatine, Illinois, which is just a short drive from Chicago. He played college ball at Bradley in Peoria, so he’s got local roots. Before this, he spent two seasons with the Cubs.
Venable really likes what Tauchman brings. He mentioned that Tauchman can control the zone and gives a solid at-bat. Plus, he’s a good defender and baserunner. Sounds like a reliable guy to have on the team.
It’s worth noting that the White Sox had a rough season, finishing with a record of 41-121. That’s a tough pill to swallow, breaking the record for losses in a season. They’re in rebuilding mode and recently signed another veteran outfielder, Austin Slater, to help out.
This past season, Tauchman batted .248 with seven home runs and 29 RBIs over 109 games. The Cubs decided to non-tender him last month, so he’s looking for a fresh start. Throughout his career, he’s played for teams like Colorado, San Francisco, and the New York Yankees, with a career batting average of .241.
