The Yankees have signed Paul Goldschmidt to a one-year deal, adding a powerful veteran presence to their lineup this offseason
New York: The Yankees are making some big moves this offseason. They just signed Paul Goldschmidt, the former NL MVP, to a one-year deal worth $12.5 million. Pretty exciting, right?
Goldschmidt has been a solid player for the last six years with the St. Louis Cardinals. Before that, he spent eight seasons with the Arizona Diamondbacks. He really knows how to play the game.
This seven-time All-Star is just what the Yankees need. After losing Juan Soto to the Mets, they’re looking to rebuild. Goldschmidt brings a lot of experience and skill, having won four Gold Gloves and five Silver Sluggers during his career.
Last season, he hit 22 home runs and had a batting average of .245. Not too shabby for a 37-year-old! He’s definitely going to make an impact.
Interestingly, he’s not the only former MVP the Yankees have picked up recently. They also traded for Cody Bellinger, the 2019 NL MVP, just a few days ago. The Yankees are really shaking things up this offseason, also adding closer Devin Williams and pitcher Max Fried.
