Despite recent struggles, the Rangers hierarchy is hesitant to fire Laviolette, fearing another coaching change won’t solve their issues
New York: The Rangers have been on a rough patch, losing 10 of their last 13 games. You’d think that would put Peter Laviolette in hot water, right? But it seems the management isn’t ready to pull the trigger just yet.
According to Larry Brooks from The New York Post, the Rangers’ higher-ups are hesitant to fire Laviolette. They’ve already let go of Gerard Gallant and David Quinn in recent years, and they don’t want to keep shifting the blame onto different coaches.
It’s kind of wild when you think about it. The Rangers didn’t give Quinn or Gallant much time to show what they could do. Now, they’re stuck in a similar situation, and maybe the problem isn’t just the coaching.
This team has had the same core for a while now, and they keep running into the same issues. They really lack the toughness and solid defense needed to make a serious run for the Stanley Cup. It’s been obvious for ages, even when they’ve had some decent regular seasons.
Plus, the core players are getting older, and their once high-flying offense isn’t looking so explosive anymore. There’s definitely something off in New York. The Rangers seem to have lost their confidence and play like they don’t even know who they are anymore.
Teams don’t fear playing against the Rangers, and that’s a big red flag. If things don’t turn around soon, Laviolette might find himself looking for a new job sooner than he thinks.
They’ve already tried firing coaches too quickly in the past, and it hasn’t really worked out. Chris Drury might want to rethink his strategy, or he could end up being the one on the chopping block at the end of the season.
