The Boston Red Sox have secured Patrick Sandoval on a two-year deal as he recovers from Tommy John surgery, aiming for a strong return.
Boston: The Red Sox are making moves to boost their pitching lineup. They’ve just signed lefty Patrick Sandoval to a two-year deal worth $18.25 million. Sounds like a solid investment, right?
But here’s the catch: Sandoval is currently recovering from Tommy John surgery. He had the surgery back in June 2024, so fans will have to be patient. He’s expected to miss the first half of the 2025 season.
Before this, Sandoval spent six seasons with the Los Angeles Angels. He had a bit of a rough patch with his ERA, but he bounced back nicely in 2021 and 2022. In fact, he posted a career-low 2.91 ERA in 2022, which is pretty impressive.
He started the 2024 season as the Angels’ Opening Day pitcher but struggled a bit, ending up with a 5.08 ERA over 16 starts before his injury. The Red Sox are hoping they can get him back to his best form once he’s healthy again.
