Yankees GM Brian Cashman is optimistic about Jaason Dominguez’s potential for a full season in 2025 after his recovery from injury
New York: The Yankees are shaking things up in their outfield this season, and Jaason Dominguez is set to play a key role. After trading for Cody Bellinger from the Cubs, the team is looking to fill that last outfield spot.
Dominguez, the Yankees’ top prospect, is finally healthy. Brian Cashman, the GM, is hoping 2025 will be his year to shine in The Bronx. He mentioned wanting to see Dominguez get his shot during a recent press conference.
At just 21, Dominguez has shown flashes of brilliance, but he’s also had his ups and downs. He made a brief appearance in September 2023, hitting four homers in just eight games. Unfortunately, an elbow injury sidelined him for the 2024 season.
With the Yankees acquiring Juan Soto and Alex Verdugo, Dominguez found himself with limited opportunities in 2024. He played 18 games but struggled, hitting only .179 with two homers.
His defense was shaky too, as he played left field instead of his natural center position. There’s still some uncertainty about where he’ll fit in the outfield, especially with Bellinger’s role being debated.
Manager Aaron Boone recently dismissed rumors about Bellinger playing center field, calling them “fake news.” Bellinger, a former Gold Glove winner, could play various positions, which might open up a spot for Dominguez in center.
Boone mentioned that Bellinger could play center, left, or even first base in 2025. With Cashman’s enthusiasm for Dominguez, it looks like the young outfielder will get a real chance to prove himself this season.
