The Yankees have reportedly signed right-handed pitcher Wilking Rodriguez to a minor league contract with a spring training invite
New York: The Yankees are making some moves! They just signed Wilking Rodriguez to a minor league deal. This includes an invite to spring training, which is pretty cool.
Rodriguez is a veteran right-hander, but he’s not exactly a household name. He’s turning 35 soon and hasn’t had much big league action. He was with the Yankees before, back in 2022, but then the Cardinals picked him up in the Rule 5 draft.
His career has been a bit of a rollercoaster. He’s spent almost twelve seasons bouncing around the minors and even played in some foreign leagues. Last year, he pitched in the Venezuelan Winter League and the Mexican League, putting up a solid 1.78 ERA over 50.2 innings.
But here’s the kicker: his only major league experience was back in 2014 with the Royals, where he pitched just two innings. The Yankees are hoping he can bring some of that hard-throwing talent to their bullpen, even though he’s had some shoulder issues lately.
