Farhan Zaidi addresses his involvement in the Giants’ lineup after recent claims, emphasizing collaboration over control in decision-making.
San Francisco: So, Farhan Zaidi is setting the record straight about his time with the Giants. He recently spoke on a podcast, and it’s pretty interesting.
After getting fired on September 30, he finally opened up about his role. There were some claims that he was the one making lineup decisions, but he’s here to clarify that.
Zaidi mentioned that he never actually made the lineup. He loves Will Clark, who thought he did, but that’s not how it went down. He said there’s a lot of back-and-forth in baseball, especially between front offices and managers.
He explained that while he didn’t call the shots, he did chat with the coaching staff about lineup decisions. It was more of a team effort. They’d discuss things like when to give the backup catcher a chance or how to handle matchups against opposing pitchers.
Zaidi emphasized that it was always a conversation. He never just handed over a lineup card with names on it. He thinks that’s a big misconception. They’d talk about general strategies, but day-to-day decisions were collaborative.
Even though he and manager Bob Melvin only worked together for one season with the Giants, they have a history from their time with the Oakland Athletics. They were a team back in the day, so it’s interesting to see how their paths might cross again.
Now, with Zaidi possibly looking at a role with the Dodgers, they could end up as rivals in the NL West. That’ll be something to watch!
